The Sword of Thunder - Second phase
The next day, I started work on the steel first after finishing my morning routine. Today we are going to sandwich Apoitakara with this guy.
I thought steel seems to be a very honest and good material.
Perhaps because I had a tough time with mithril while this one is harder than that to work with.
In fact, it's nice to know that it will extend and spread as long as I need with precise hits and hammering.
At the moment, I’m just extending regular steel, so riku is not here.
The sound of the hammer I wield echoes rhythmically through the forge. Helen is working with Diana on a short swords mould.
I took a look at her a little and found that she is quite dexterous. Helen learned rather quickly, I guess it is easier to get a sense for something you are familiar with (she uses sword for a living).
「hey」
「yes (haa)」
When I saw Helen like that, she approached me.
「'Was the one for me before made in this mould?」
「No, when I made yours, I beat and stretched it.」
「What's the difference?」
「'Ahh ...... yes, I know. It's easier to lock in the magic if you hammer it.」
I was a little lost, but decided to be honest.
「"Wow, Eizo can do that?"」
「oh! RIKU can do a little too.」
When I said that, riku made a big fist. She has a pretty good physique despite her young appearance, so she has a lot of power there.
The ratio of cute is much higher, though. I'd say 7:3. Of course, the cuteness is 7.
「But it was okay, right?"」
「What?」
「You taught me.」
「It's okay because we're family.」
Yes, Helen is family now. We have only been a family for about a week, but we are still a family.
I grinned, and Helen turned red and looked down. If she were this beautiful, she would have had one or two men approach her, but she overreacts, as if every gesture of a man is unusual.
「It reminds me of when I first came here.」
Diana sees this and mixes it back up. I remember that she was not so naive, perhaps because she had many male siblings, but she would get very sulky if I told her that, so I'll keep quiet.
「There, there. Work, work, work.」
I urged them on, and they each went back to their own work. I'll start on the steel again too.
So four plates of steel, slightly thicker and smaller than Apoitakara were made.
I took two of them and sandwiched the Apoitakara between them, grabbed them together with a yatko and put them in the firebox. To stick steel to steel, we need to prepare borax or something, but we will try our best without it this time..
Apoitakara's processing temperatures have only a narrow range and overlap with steel processing temperatures. I ascertain the last-minute place at the nick of timing.
The amount of spread per strike is different between steel and Apoitakara, so the difference must also be factored into the processing. It's a show for cheat skill. I am not sure if I should be ashamed to say that I used a cheat skill.
Remove it from the fireplace and hammer it. The response is different from that of the steel alone, probably because of the Apoitakara in between.
The fact that the temperature of the steel is slightly quicker to drop, which helps and the temperature of the Apoitakara is also quicker to drop, so it takes longer than expected to be able to process.
We will process as much as possible during the long, but short, period of time. So that the steel will have enough magic power.
The disadvantage of having different materials in between is not felt to be significant. Thank God for cheat skills.
After a lunch break, I was finally able to process it to the desired length in the late afternoon. Two swords were made. Of course both are the same length and the same weight.
Tap the two lightly with your hand. It sounds slightly different than when you hit the steel ......, but I don't know. Maybe it's just my imagination.
This will be a done deal once it is shaped and sharpened. I decided to leave that for the next day, and finished the work for the day.
