Night Information Gathering

That night we had dinner at a bar, not at the inn. It's for information gathering and confirmation.

If the purpose is to gather information, the flashier the better but if it is too conspicuous, the more likely it is that someone will try to find out what's behind the purpose.

He wants to start a business in this city as a cover, but since he doesn't actually do so, there will inevitably be a breakdown somewhere.

Thus, I'm going to get it over with and get rid of it while it's still out there. It would be best if possible to get away with some kind of disruption, but I'm not sure I have the time to aim that high.

Therefore, information gathering only leads to such things as, 「This town looks like a good place to do business,」or 「We need a warehouse for that, but it is impossible to build a new warehouse, so we have to rent one,」 and so on.

The information gathered from that is not much. However, scrutinize it and you can eliminate another one from the list of necessary information.

After eating dinner while gathering information like this (alcohol was consumed in moderation), we returned to our lodgings.

「Now, here's what I gathered today.」

「How was it?」

We three men gather in Camillo's room and begin talking.

I'm not familiar with that side of things, so it's basically Camillo and Franz's job to scrutinize.

「I found about six that apply, but three are clean. One place seemed to have a high degree of certainty, but nothing decisive. The other two are suspect, but not as likely as the one I just mentioned.」

I interjected after hearing Franz's report.

「So we're going to hit that one?」

「That's a little premature.」

Camillo replies to my words.

「If we don't get a little more confirmation, we could be no better than common bandits when we sneak in.」

「Hmmm. .......」

That's certainly true too. If you get in and Helen is not there, you are just a regular thief who is stealing.

That's all well and good, but I don't know what the people holding Helen captive would think of a bandit who went to the trouble of sneaking into a place with so little luggage.

Camillo seems to be more correct in saying that we should go cautiously here.

「I get it. Then I'll just be a blacksmith for a while longer.」

「I'm asking you. Well, I can't say that depending on the preparations for the revolution.」

「Is that so?」

「If it starts, We'll break in from the one that looks most likely. It will be a mess anyway, you never know who's in there and more importantly, they won’t know what's going to happen.」

「I see.」

「For now, tomorrow we'll be narrowing it down, but we'll be thinking about approaching the more certain areas.」

Franz took over the conversation and we dismissed for the day.

The next day, my second day in town, was similar. There was even a little bit of publicity from the person who came in yesterday asking for repairs, or maybe he brought in a few swords to repair.

All of these repairs are for a single silver coin so, the sales are reasonable. I appreciate the positive response but I have mixed feelings because this is not what I came here for.

On this day too, we have dinner at the tavern and check in at the inn.

「I still think the one with a high degree of certainty stinks. It is the only place where people hardly come and go. Moreover, in the other two cases, there was a lot of people coming in and out, if not goods coming in and out.」

「Hmmm. .......」

Camillo's head twists at Franz's report. There is no way you can keep a secret in a place where you don't know when someone will come.

After thinking for a while, Camillo opened his mouth.

「All right, then, tomorrow we'll explore the inside if we can. Once confirmed, it's time to begin the rescue.」

Finally. When the time comes, I will give it my all. With this in mind, I prayed for Helen's safety for the time being.
